Schedule of Classes

You can take any of our classes with any make of sewing machine. We have sewing experience on many different makes and models. Some machines have special features that make some task easier than others. There are many ways and techniques and if you have a machine that you like and it zig zags!, you will do just fine.

They provide a free  Hot breakfast, and nice rooms double or single.
Most important it is 2 blocks from us, so if needed I can shuttle you to the store. :-)

The Smocking Arts Guild of America Meets every first Thursday Night of the Month at 6:30pm at the Store. Everyone is invited to join us! See you in There!

Class Requirements
  • All classes require pre-registration at least 3 weeks prior to class. Once class is full you can be put on waiting list.
  • Supply list will be provided for each class  before class meets.
  • Fees are not refundable or transferable.
  • Minimum class size is 6 students.
  • Kits are purchased in store

  The "Yoke Dress" Class

Come join us for some serious sewing and fellowship! We will make this little Princess dress from start to finish  either unsmocked or pleated to be smocked after the class!
Points covered during class will be: cutting and preparing the fabric, interfacing, completely lined yokes with prpoer neck treatments for gather collar attachments, scalloped piping or regular piping, countinous bound placket, bias ruffled collars, bias sleeves and hemming.
Wonderful time to prefect your sewing skills!

Learn how to count your spacing and stitches for perfect placement. Mulitple needles keep the finish project clean front and back.

Heirloom Notebook Class
(beginners and reviewers)
You will make a notebook of 20+ different techniques used in heirloom sewing. You will document each sample with all machines settings, special feet, needles, thread to use and what application you will use each step for. I am adding several new Steps for sewing with the english bobbinettes.
The best is that you will go home with this notebook and use it as a reference every time you sew!

Apron Adaptations and Drafting Class
(beginners and up)

We will start with a Basic Apron Pattern and transform it in to 4 different patterns! Even if you sew for boys we will show how to make it into a shirt! So this class is for all who want a classic traditional childrens wardrobe!
This is a level 1 Class, basic block set will be given to each student so that you can learn the basics of pattern drafting with a block pattern. So don't be afraid to create!!

English Smocking 101
(beginners and review)

Learn the art of English Smocking.Class includes stitches, preparation, blocking, centering, reading a graph, execution of stitch spacing and the embroidery stitches related to your smocking design. This class is great for beginners and those who smocked years ago and need updated information and techniques.

Bishop Construction Class Weekend Sewing!

This class you will:
learn how to cut a bishop out even on checks, sew french seams that will go through your pleater, Block a bishop to smock for the perfect neck, constuct the dress making beautiful bias neck line , and sew petite piping with bias bound sleeves !
All of this done right in class with a wonderful group. Wonderful tips and tricks to finish that dress to perfection.

Learn basic stitches, tension problem solvers, holding hook and thread tricks , reading patterns, and turning rows. You can make beautiful trims that will be heirlooms for years to come.
