Butterfly Summer

So Sweet!

The Butterfly print from fabric Finders  and the contrast parallel parking from Nashville Cotton. Both fabrics come in blue also.

Use your bishop pattern! It has the curve cut into the pattern so that your dress will not sag in the center front or back! Don't use the sleeves.

Cut front and backs out on fold.

Pleat both pieces separately.

Tie fronts and backs using this chart.

Sizes 1-2 : 7"

Sizes 3-4 : 7 3/4"

Sizes 5-6 : 8 1/2"

Sizes 7-8 : 9"

Finish the armhole curves with a bias.

Straps are cut cross grain 1 3/4" wide by the 45" long. Run thru bias maker to fold in edges evenly. Fold in half evenly and center straps on center of fronts and backs and top stitch on. Finish top stitching both ends to secure entire strap.

Some ask me if it is easy to construct the outfit before you smock, I have done this for years. I find that I will finish it quicker this way.

The bloomer pattern is Martha's slip and panty pattern and is a great one to add length to the legs for longer pants!

Best Friends for the Summer!

This is Callie by Children's Corner

Fabric is the stick people in the Novelty Prints and Raspberry Pique.

Medium Rick rack in blue trims the pique.

7/8" covered buttons are So Cute!

The neatest thing about this dress is-

The only time a sewing machine was used was to put in the button holes! The entire dress was made on my serger! Yes even the straight stitching! It took about 90 minutes start to finish!

Flip Flop Version!

The nice thing about this dress is that it only takes what you need for the skirts twice. The fabric is 60" and you can get the sleeves, yokes and belt from the side pieces. The shirts were cut 39" wide which adequate for all sizes. Because of the size of the collar I would suggest that the smallest size to make would be a 3.

To make the linen hand towel into a collar we suggest you refer to Nancy Colburn's "Busy Mother's Guide to sewing Children's Clothes". Here is a closer look at the collar.

Hand Towel can be found on the Handkerchief and Linen page.

And the hem

This cutie was made with Petite Poche's "Daisy Mae" pattern.

The fabric is 100% cotton,  medium blue seersucker check.

The yoke , sleeves, and hem are piped with petite piping, slicker yellow.

The collar is a linen hand towel edged with a Madeira hem and embroidered by hand with 3 cute little lady bugs!  I laid out the bottom of the dress so you could see the hem a little better.

To do this hem I took 7" off the bottom, added the piping. Then I reattached the bottom and hemmed under  4 1/2". I basted a 5/8" tuck right above the hem so to add a little more detail. This tuck can be removed later for more length.  The bug buttons are just cute, I have 2 on the back yoke also( not on the bottom back hem).

The pattern is "PBJK's Jumper & Blouse "

The smocking plate is "Hug a Bug"  by Cherished Stitches

The fabric is "Bugs at Play" found on the 4th page of novelty fabrics

and all piped in red mini piping.

Kristen's Sundress by Miche'

Summer print pique and pima classic red Check for a contrast and piping. Gotta love those pockets!

    "Charlotte" by Children's   Corner.

Novelty dots and moda marbles are a great match. Accented with yellow piping and matching butterfly buttons.

This one is so cute!  The top is a short version of Hillary by Children's Corner and the pants are PARKER from the same company. The fabrics are Hoffman prints with sizzle pink broadcloth ruffles and piping. The buttons are the new lily pad buttons.

back view of the top

Here's another project we are working on. This is the Heather Shelly pattern from Yvonne Denise designs. The fabric is the new  small floral print from heirloom imports and the new lime green imperial broadcloth!

Here are a trio of summer bishops. Each are out of the new heirloom stripes. These bishops are sleeveless with a eyelet over lay. Great sundress ideas!
